Where we are headed as a church
Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 04:26AM Acts 2: 42-47 gives us a view of the early church and God’s plan for community:
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
The implications of the early church are obvious.
Church is not a show.
Church is not a club.
Church is not a program.
Church is a living moving organism.
We don’t go to church, we are the church. We are the hands, feet, ears and eyes of Christ on the earth. Doesn’t that just blow your ever-loving mind? It means that we gather at the campus to worship and gear up for the ground war in the culture. We should leave the campus at 11:15 on Sunday mornings ready to be the real church in our homes, the hospitals, the workplace, as we minister to inmates, to the people we meet in the restaurants, the homeless shelters, and our small groups.
Just as our nation has a department f homeland security, Satan has a department of homeland security. He considers this world his domain and whenever we begin to charge the gates of hell, we are reclaiming the world for God. This will require prayer and surrender. It doesn’t mean we will be busier. It means that we will do less churchy opportunities in order for you to have the opportunities to connect with people.
I am praying for a spiritual awakening in my life and in our church. I invite you to join me. We are truly on a mission from God!
I love you,
Matt Tullos
