    The 40 year old virgin

Isaac was forty years of when he married Rebecca.  This is an unusually long wait to start a family.

Genesis 25:21 We see the struggle Isaac had with starting a family. He pleads with the Lord, and the Lord listens and Rebecca conceives. Why infertility? Why do these things continually happen along the Genesis journey, some might ask, under the watch care of the one true God. I would argue that God wants that relationship which is borne out of relentless struggle. Once we wrestle with the divine in prayer we begin to understand and rely on God.  We see the reality of the invisible presence of the Active God interfacing with an active faith. It's a journey that we are compelled as believers to begin. It is transcendent above all else.

I too wrestle with God. I have those barren places in my soul. I look for answers.  Sometimes the reply is more wrestling, other times it is reassuring love, and other times it is maddening silence! The struggle continues. Relentless struggle gives birth to the transcendence of life.
