Gen 24: The wedding planner
Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 08:54AM Genesis 24 could be seen as another foreshadowing to the story of redemption. The servant (archetype of the Holy Spirit) is sent by Abraham (archetype of the Father) with Isaac (once again archetype of Jesus) to search for the bride (archetype of the Church)
Notice how the Servant (Holy Spirit) comes bearing gifts:
Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and left, taking with him all kinds of good things from his master. He set out for Aram Naharaim and made his way to the town of Nahor.
Verse 54 But her brother and her mother replied, "Let the girl remain with us ten days or so; then you may go." But he said to them, "Do not detain me, now that the LORD has granted success to my journey. Send me on my way so I may go to my master."
Compare to Matthew 8:21-22
Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."
Verse 59 is a poem to Rebekah. May it also be a prophetic word to our churches.
And they blessed Rebekah and said to her,
"Our sister, may you increase
to thousands upon thousands;
may your offspring possess
the gates of their enemies."
Could Jesus have been referring to this when he said, "Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it." ?
