Update regarding me and God

God has really been pushing me toward growth as a Christ-follower. I am on a quest to make everything in my private world square up to my public world. throwing off masks, insecurity and fear. The real challenge for me in life is to try to live life worshiping THE Savior rather than trying to be the savior for people. Leaning on his power to change people- primarily me. I have been stretched in my marriage, my role as a father and pastor. I have come to see the futility of my ability to convince people to move forward. Our church is really growing and I am really growing. For the past few months I have been asking God lots of "why" questions. And He's been answering them. Sometimes I haven't liked the answers. Here are a few fun and not so fun answers to the questions I've been asking God.

I ask why and God responds.... 

• Because you are too focused on personal success.
• Because the people closest to you deserve Me not you. 
• Because I have invited you to learn from me and one of my favorite tools to use is pain. You change more in pain than you do in comfort.
• Because there is much more at stake than the number of people who hop on board the Matt Tullos bandwagon.
• Because you are broken and I need you to be still so I can heal you.
• Because you are bitter about things that you refuse to deal with.
• Because I have invited you into an adventure to fight some really, really bad powers and principalities and you need to stop avoiding the bad things and follow My lead.
• Because sometimes you are too "smart" and "creative" for Me to really use.
• Because you take things way to personally, you react rather than act, and you don't trust me with consequence many times. 
• Because you often consider yourself more than you consider Me.
• Because you are exhausting yourself and when you are all messed up and unwell you give Me a bad name.
• Because you have yet to put off pride, jealousy and the works of the devil which masquerade as righteousness.
• Because I long for you to seek my presence more than my presents.
• Because you are a beloved, gifted, wonderful child with an uncanny capacity to fowl everything up in your life if I gave you what you ask for.
