Another flawed attempt of mine to explain the church
Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 05:21PM We don’t come to church. We ARE the church. The church is an incredible organism of God’s design which is on mission. When those outside (and some inside) the church think about the term “church” we often default back to an event. (The church is not an event.) Others think of a building. (The church is not a building.) And still others think of a long, laborious, languishing list of to-do’s! (The church is not… well… it shouldn’t be that either.) The church is an all-consuming, wildly dangerous proposition, invented by God, soaked in the water of His Spirit, cleansed by the blood of the One and Only Son of God, ever-changing and growing and always called to move more and more into the image of Christ. The church has been the greatest source of division, persecution, confusion and hypocrisy but praise God He’s making us over. He’s changing our nature. She needs all the people she can muster because her goal is ever eternal. Jesus is Lord. And He’s in love with the Bride. That’s us. The Church.
