the right to be right
Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:13AM chasing after the right to be right
this blue marble bellows
for rights of war
the scandal of original sin
it's a noisy place these days
spirit and celebrities hissing, laughing, cajoling
while beggars scrape for a crust of bread
Who is right?
A moralistic pilgrimage to the far reaches of the gallows
the bombs have deafened us
they have distorted our view of Christ, of mercy, of beatitude
and still He scrawls in the dirt
we--half longing, half dreading to know what He writes.
But we are far too busy with words, defending our own right to be right
Kill the heretics, kill the unborn, kill the innocence in us all
it's all just killing
it's the death of hope and the coffins labeled by platforms, broken treaties, audacious claims,
lies and wealth
shadow missions that scatter the blood of our brothers
measured more by the polls of men than the heart of God
we are far too consumed by the static of the status quo
and so we stand on the roof intoxicated by greed
and our right to be right.
