What would happen if…
A Sermon Starter for Vision Casting


1:  As the New Year begins, we’ve been asking some important questions about our ministry. We’ve been dreaming dreams that are bigger than we are. We’ve prayerfully asked each other-

3: What would happen if…

All:  What would happen if…

2:  It’s a good question because when we ask it we begin to dream dreams that are as big as the world we live in.

All:  What would happen if…

1:  It’s a scary question.  

3:  It’s an incredibly challenging question….

4:  What would happen if we continued to do the same thing we’ve done over and over again?

1:  What would happen if we decided we only wanted to reach people like us?

3: And frankly we couldn’t stomach the answer to those questions.  So we started asking better questions.

2:  What if we became known as a church that really loves people.

4:  What happen if we loved people enough to accept them where they are and that the love we share would be strong enough.

1:  powerful enough to change their lives.

2: What if we got off our political bandwagons and got in the midst of hurting, broken, and struggling people.

4: What if we stopped comparing ourselves to other churches and started comparing our church to the 3 years Jesus spent on Earth?

2:  What if we refused to rely on anything other than the powerful words of the Bible.


4: What if stopped using the Bible to justify our present state and really allowed the Bible to make major changes in the culture we create.

3:  What if we stopped pointing our fingers at problem people?

2:  What if our main goal was simply to love them

3:  and see what happens

1:  What would happen if we made it our goal to become 21st century believers with the priorities of the 1st century church.

4:  What if we really embraced the idea that simply by believing God, studying the Bible and loving each other we could do things we never even imagined possible

All:  What if we had a global impact?

1:  What if we made it our mission to love people around the world

3:  through giving

4:  through missions

2:  through obeying the commands of Christ

1:  What would happen if the unchurched masses found our church to be a refuge and a solution to their needs

All:  What if our ministry teams became messengers of peace

4:  What if there was a waiting list for the prayer room and extended session.

3:  What if our worship was not so much about who was singing and where people we seated.

2:  What if it was not so much about the temperature, the style, or the illustrations in the sermon but that our worship was about a desperate pursuit of God.

4:  What if we spent more time preparing spiritually for Sundays than we did dressing and driving to be there.

1:  What if we had to park creatively to make sure everyone had a place to park.

3:  What kinds of world changing activities could we be up to if everyone gave ten percent of their income to God.

All:  And what if we prayed diligently

4:  loved passionately

2:  dreamed dangerously

3:  and worshiped continuosly.
