On a journey with the Bride at Bluegrass

A few days ago after a Sunday morning gathering I had someone stop me to say that she is considering joining our church but is wrestling with doubts that she's had for years. My heart leaped when I heard this because this person felt the freedom to be real with me.  She was invited by a friend and felt comfortable at our church. I shared with her that Bluegrass Baptist Church is a place that welcomes everyone who is on a spiritual quest for to know Jesus. Are you on a spiritual quest? It sounds high-minded but really it's not at all. We are on a journey. We all have our doubts from time to time. We pursue God through heartaches, laughter, fear, uncertainty, intimacy, frustration, anger and elation. It's what I like to call a "scattered feast" and Jesus is at the head of the table. If He wasn't in it all, our purpose would be no greater that a non-profit service organization that serves crackers and juice, and gathers to pass the time away. I've got a pretty good idea that you don't need another appointment or social event to make your life meaningful.  God knows we don't need more to do. We gather because without Jesus life doesn't make sense. It just doesn't.

I've heard that running is simply the act of continually falling with purpose and sometimes this purposeful falling is lands us on our rear. But the disciple is the one who gets up and gets on with the journey. Please know that your transitional pastor is on a spiritual quest to know Jesus and I, too, stumble my way toward the banquet table of Heaven.

I've said it before but it's worth repeating- "We are an imperfect people who find meaning in the truth of the Bible." We believe that the tomb is empty and that Jesus and His Kingdom are among us. This kingdom of God isn't located at the address of BBC. He's in hearts of the real church His Bride. She's beautiful and she's going to make it.  Do you believe it? I do.
