    Reading for Worship

    Resting in Jesus
Adapted from the hymn “Jesus I am Resting, Resting” by Jean Pigott

The Worship leader should invite the worshipers to enter into a time of silent reflection and prayer. After this time of prayer, the readers stand in front of four candlesticks. Before they say their verse they light their candles.

Reader 1: Jesus, I am resting in the joy of who you are
I am finding out the greatness of your loving heart.
as I cast my gaze upon you.
And Your beauty fills my soul,
    And by Your transforming power,
    You have made me whole.

All: Jesus, I am resting in the joy of who you are
I am finding out the greatness of your loving heart.

Reader 2: O, how great Your loving kindness,
    Vaster, broader than the sea!
    O, how marvelous Your goodness,
    Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in You, Beloved,
to know Your beauty in this time.
    Your certainty of promise,
And then to make it mine.

All: Jesus, I am resting in the joy of who you are
I am finding out the greatness of Your loving heart.

Reader 3: Simply trusting You, Lord Jesus,
I behold You as You are,
and your love, so pure, so changeless,
    Satisfies my heart;
    It satisfies its deepest longings,
    And supplies my every need,
You surround me with your with blessings:
    Yours is love indeed!

All: Jesus, I am resting in the joy of who you are
I am finding out the greatness
of Your loving heart.

Reader 4: Ever cast your eyes upon me
until at last your face I see
I rest beneath your smile, Lord Jesus,
    Earth’s dark shadows flee.
    Brightness of my Father’s glory,
    Sunshine of my Father’s face,
    Keep me ever trusting, resting,
    Fill me with Thy grace.

All: Jesus, I am resting in the joy of who you are
I am finding out the greatness of Your loving heart.
