Thoughts on Proverbs 19:17

Achieving small unusual acts of kindness feels a bit goofy or awkward at first. I remember the look on the face of an old man in Mexico when I offered him a cold soda in the market place. I didn’t understand his culture and he sure didn’t understand me but the look on his face was scary then incredibly exciting to see. It was like,”What are you doing!” and then two seconds later it was more like, “Whoa! Free stuff! THANKS! And Why?”
After a while it becomes addictive. If you’ve ever been on a mission trip you understand. Why is that so? Why do we become addicted to sleeping in unusual places surrounded by so many unique smells?! Here’s my hunch: We get addicted to God’s smile. We don’t actually see it with our eyes but it’s definitely there. He is so excited to see our obedience and joy in service that He smiles at us. One day, I believe we will get to actually see the pearly whites of God Almighty but it helps to know that He is smiling as we serve.
