Station 2: Jesus Carries His cross

Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha).

Lord Jesus Son of God, I behold the journey as you begin to carry the Holy Cross of redemption. You have already suffered so much and the pain, the shame, the unspeakable journey causes me to shutter. Lord, you embraced this moment. You became a servant who willingly lifted the expense our sin.

You were God, but for this moment you felt the shame of my sin and the sin of my people. I watch you surrounded by mockers, in the company of theives, but with the determination fueled by divine desperation you began the journey to Golgotha.

    Tears mingled with blood
    and the spittle of mockers
    dust
    the clamourous noise
    vulgarity
    and spiteful laughter

Your eyes turned to the hill of death.
