minor prophets? (thoughts for Bible teachers)
Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 02:27PM minor prophets
The term term is manmade. There are no minor prophets in God’s eyes. They were (like us) people selected for a specific task and a specific time. And their impact has touched every generation since. It all started with listening believers who were present and in the moment.
We all must be present. No, not to simply show up- although that’s very important. We must be there in the moment. Agendas too often crowd our lives before the Bible study begins. There are socks to match, kids to feed, objects and tools to gather. Getting to the Bible Study sometimes seems like half the battle. Once we arrive, there are hopes, concerns, worries, and a barrage of exchanged niceties and clever banter. Our gatherings can seem minor if we have the attitude of endurance rather than conquest. I’ve caught myself praying under my breath, “Lord just get me through this.” Instead I’m learning to pray, Lord let me experience it! Things often don’t go as planned- and from God’s perspective, sometimes that’s a good thing. So we must pray, Lord, lead us into encounters of significance and holy moments of awe when our adrenalene is charged by this mysterious Book that has led us through life. Sometimes we grieve after Bible Study over past moments and missed blessings. There are a million more, if we choose to be transformational in the task.
• The transformational teacher is the one who is present- living in the moment.
• The transformational teacher is the one who personifies a holy expectancy, always aware that we have the potential to impact generations that follow.
• The transformational teacher is the one who prepares well and still allows God to change the agenda.
• The transformational teacher is reaches into God’s resources out of holy deseration, knowing that apart from Jesus, we can do nothing.
So pursue, ache, long, and seek God in your Bible study group and see what happens.
