In a surprise move yesterday, Jesus and his followers said ‘no’ to a motion to boycott publicans and sinners. They will continue to move forward with all plans to patronize places and events that are servicing, as well as those places that are even run by outcasts, sinners, and publicans. As usual Jesus explained the move which he opposed from the very outset by saying, “separating from these people whom I love and who need to be saved would be like hiding my light under a bushel.” Threats from the Pharisees to proceed with the ongoing boycott in order to teach the ‘sinners’ a lesson was seen by Jesus as a move totally contrary to the heart of God. This infuriated these religious groups. Jesus responded to their accusations by saying yesterday, “Judge not lest you be judged. I came not to this world to condemn the world but that the world through me might be saved.”
The Pharisees, will proceed with the boycott in which they are also wishing to prove their point by a public condemnation of health care benefits to anyone committing adultery, fornication or those whose illnesses were a result of sin such as leprosy and epilepsy. Judas, the disciple who proposed to join the boycott was outraged by the vote saying that the others have sold out to the enemy and that their unwillingness to fight sinners left him hanging.
