john kramp shared with us the following story
Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 12:48PM A friend shared the following with me. A group of young people working in
the French Quarter struggled to escape the ravages of Katrina. Heavily
tattooed and body-pierced, they were walking together when a television
reporter stopped to interview them. One young lady explained how they had
escaped death but expressed concern that her family in the Midwest didn’t
know that she was all right. She mentioned that her father was pastor.
Based on her appearance and that of her friends, one might guess that she
had been pursuing a lifestyle in the French Quarter that distanced her from
her family.
The reporter offered a cell phone for the young lady to call home. She did
and with many tears, poured out her story to her family. She assured them
that she was safe and with friends and explained where she was. After
saying good-bye, she handed the phone back to the reporter. Then through
more tears she said, “They told me my daddy had already left yesterday
driving the church bus. He’s coming to get us.”

Gulf Coast, we give thanks. They are coming from across the country to
help. Some are filled with volunteers to bring help. At least one is filled
with a pastor, a father, coming to bring a daughter home.
