    thoughts on wisdom

i've thought several times today about directions, courses and plans, and i am reminded that wisdom indeed is a skill, a craft- a craft i haven't mastered. My mission statement so many days is "no pain." What a stupid goal:-) Wisdom is not ease. Rather it is the strength of choice. The skill of couragious discomfort. It's a great deal easier to attach wood in sand than it is to attach wood to rock. Wisdom is indeed a lonely path of choice. Wisdom is faith that the reward at the end of the journey is greater than the sound of any ice cream truck we hear along the side of the road.

Wisdom is not the ability to distinguish the ephemeral and the eternal. It is (i beliieve) the ability to know both and choose the eternal. Lord give me the strength today and tomorrow to choose wisely.

I love this - wisdom is the ability to choose the eternal! We live in the ambivalence of not always knowing if we can choose the eternal, wanting the present and having to look at how the present and the eternal are already living within the soul. Or to choose to let them live now within. Here the wind of the Spirit, I believe, breathes the eternal into us, in the present and brings the wisdom of the Light of Christ within.
