I'm now out of Uhaul h-e-double hockey sticks

Finally the ordeal is over and I've spent so much time on it that i have little time to blog about it.

Darlene called New 2 (ABC). News 2's investigative reporter, Brent Frazier called them and my Dad called some important people in law inforcement who in turn called Uhaul, they suddenly decided to check their inventory to find the truck. It was found in their shop being serviced.

I am both relieved and outraged. But more relieved than outraged. this has has definitely been one of the worst experiences of my life.

Yesterday, I hit an emotional rock bottom when I got a call from a Police officer on my cel phone saying that I needed to come back to Nashville because they were about to file a warrant for my arrest. I never imagined things could happen like this but it did. Once news 2 in Nashville called Uhaul, Uhaul called us and said that they found the truck in the Uhaul maintanience shop and that everything was settled. They said they wouldn't charge my credit card for anything. But still no real unprovoked apology. Only when I said i had never received an apology did i get a token, "we apologize."

Hi Matt, this is a note from Bud Farkelson, and the southwest mid-central sub-regional office of U-Haul. On behalf of the entire U-Haul "family" I want to tell you how sorry we are about the little "incident." We typically find it hard to overlook one of those 24 foot trucks but darned if we didn't nearly trip over it for two days. Go figure. Turns out one of the new guys had decided to roast a pig in the back and we all got distracted. And that whole swearing out a warrant thing, that was a mistake too. That's one of those things that we will all laugh someday soon, I'm sure. You see we at U-Haul sometimes do stuff to just "get peoples attention" and sometimes practical jokes go too far. (you have no idea how boring how it can get just sitting aroudn waiting fot trucks to come in. You can only play truck back football so many times.) Any who, seems the boys at the counter thought it would be fun to "pull a Debrowski..." That is insider talk for saying that you are going to get someone arrested but not really doing it...turns out they pulled a real "Debrowski." What can we say but no harm, no foul. Right? And just to show the goodwill of the U-Haul family, we want you to know that next time you use our firm, the blankets and packing tape are on us. It would be our honor.
