    the Bible is for everyone

"the Bible is, after all, God's gift to the world through His church, not to scholars. It's purpose is practical, not academic." Dallas Willard

this is such a powerful truth that i must grasp. God didn't give us the Bible for intellectual gymnastics. He gave us the Bible so that we would begin to pattern everything in our lives around it. Lord, I pray that this will be so in my life- from my habits to my ministry. everything will be focused around the Bible in a radical literal sense. Help me not to settle for just the Fallwell, Stanley, Swindoll, Lucado templetes- though they each are admirable in their own ways. I must seek the pattern of Jesus. Let it affect every corner of my life!

Years ago, while working at a Baptist Conference Center, I overheard one of the kids singing an old hymn "My faith is based on nothing less / than Scofield's Notes and Scripture Press..."

I was killing myself laughing until I stopped to think about it.
