caleb
Thursday, February 3, 2005 at 08:21PM every afternoon when i come home i am attacked by Caleb. (my 8 year old) I survived the routine when he was 5 but now that he is heavier and stronger it's like my body tenses up when i walk in the door. he has some "pretty sweet" moves. someone suggested that we enroll him in karate and i said, "You're kidding right? Train him?"
He loves battle.

8 yo is a perfect time to start a martial arts career if you can find the right sensei. As with all things you do concerning your little ones, find those who will have influence in their lives who are not ashamed of the Gospel. And yes it is possible to find harmony between church and the dojo. Although few do it as well as some;-)
Benefits will include:
1. a discharge of some of that energy...he will not feel like jumping on you so much.
2. an increase in discipline...sensei should say stuff like, DO NOT TRY THIS ON FRIENDS AND FAMILY....so he will not feel like jumping on you so much.
3. by sparing in class enough he will eventually not feel like jumping on you. Kind of like the more you have to do some things, the less you want to.
BTW, my oldest has been doing assisted sit ups since 18months and we incorporate blocks in our play. He will begin seeing stance work and kicks by 3yo and I plan on taking him to class by 5.
Contact me direct if you have any questions.
Plan B, you need to take some classes to learn how to protect your nanhnanhs. Because soon he will learn that is an easy way to drop you.
Then again if you tape it, you may win the 10,000 dollar prize on TV...
Blessing on you and yours, Bro.
A hug by any other name would feel just as sweet...
One of my nephews did something similar with my brother right up until he was about fifteen. He would never hug his Dad (way uncool) but loved to wrestle instead.
Go figure.
the day *may* come when the wrestling will stop b/c he thinks he is too cool. relish in it, invest in heating pads and ice packs. totally worth it.
