    from the camel's eye

    they do what corporations do
a mission plan and statement too.
they set up charts and graphs and rules
    powerpoint and cyber tools
this church plant proudly boasted of
a target group like hand in glove
    no innovation out of reach
as long as it could serve to teach
    the blaring buzz of r&b
    appealed to their society
    mesmerized the crowds they came
    awestruck by their pastor’s fame
the glitz was gold, the vibe was hip
fruit of the vine was fun to sip
their website shockwave bright and bold
took paypal, checks and VISA gold
the Starbucks in the welcome booth
seemed at first to be uncouth
expresso costs 2 bucks a shot
but helps the mission plan a lot.
they'll meet again next time around
    their accuras are heaven bound

(meanwhile a few miles away a mother is splitting a can of soup with her two children.)

Matt, I see Lazarus at the gates every day. I recently did a word search on "poor" and "destitute" and read through every bible reference containing those two words. At the end of it the only thing I could think of was "Church, where are you?"

Father in Heaven, have mercy on us all.
