the artist and the art
Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 03:20PM The progress of an artist is a continual self-sacrifice, a continual extinction of personality...The poet has, not a 'personality' to express, but a particular medium, which is only a medium and not a personality, in which impressions and experiences combine in peculiar and unexpected ways. Impressions and experiences which are important in the poetry may play quite a negligible part in the man, the personality. The emotion of art is impersonal.

in other words, the work of the writer is not about the writer. it's about the work. this is why i believe the Christian artist could (i stress COULD) transcend the culture of artistry within the landscape of modernism.
