are penguins like some churches?
Sunday, October 23, 2005 at 06:37PM King penguin chicks agonize through a harrowing existence, according to a new detailed study of their lives.
Because king penguin adults are so aggressive, king chicks must band together in extremely tight-knit groups in order to survive.
The study, published in the current journal Animal Behavior, found that youths at the periphery of these groups, called crèches, are at such high risk for bullying and predation that they never fully go to sleep.
