    thoughts on Psalm 40:5

    Many, O LORD my God,
    are the wonders you have done.
    The things you planned for us
    no one can recount to you;

    The nature of God is so unpredictable. We never know what is just ahead. But God has plans. His hand is not seen but his activities are witnessed by those who feel His strong hands on the clay of our lives.

    He doesn't do what we think he should. I've been getting rid of a whole lot of pretty bows that i once used to tie my life together. i figure, God doesn't use them so neither should i. life is best lived untied. because that's life.

    i see blind samson
    goliath headless
    martha in kitchen
    and mary in worship
    that's life.

    i see john beside him
    judas behind him
    and peter ahead of him and i say
    that's life

    i see jabez successful
    and jeremiah broken
    elijah hungry
    and king david feasting
    and i say that's life.

    let me see what's today
    let me trust for tomorrow
    let me laugh
    let me weep
    in the same precious moment.
    and if i do
    i will bow down before him
    because He's is our Daddy
    and we are his children
    we don't understand it so
    squeeze every drop
    from the essence of the not-knowing

    that's life.

    I see God's people decade by decade inching away from Him and that's not life, that's death.

    I see my own failings to the third power and that's not life, that's weariness.

    I see Jesus and I don't want to face Him sometimes because of habitual sin and that's not life, that's sad.

    I see my second grand daughter turning one this week and that's super life.

    I see my wife who is second only Jesus in devotion to God and that's God giving me life through Him and her.

    I see the way I've come and the way I could have gone and that's life and that's scary and awesome.
