    Genesis 9-14 reflections

    Genesis 9:4

God blessed Noah and his sons: He said, "Prosper! Reproduce! Fill the Earth! Every living creature--birds, animals, fish--will fall under your spell and be afraid of you. You're responsible for them. All living creatures are yours for food; just as I gave you the plants, now I give you everything else. 4Except for meat with its lifeblood still in it--don't eat that. (MSG)

sounds like an ecoli warning but in truth it's a commandment from God to not tear off the limb or member of a living animal. God is telling us to have respect for the animals- even they should be treated with respect.

    Genesis 9:1-17

another passage of great ambiguity and mystery. Noah plants a vineyard, gets drunk, covered by two brothers, and shamed somehow by Ham. The two brothers who covered him up walking backwards were blessed and Ham was cursed. The curse of Ham prompted by such a small act of passivity is huge. The entire story is off limits for VBS. Noah must have been a "freed up" non-baptist unless it was considered NyQuil. (The Baptist alternative for a glass of wine.)

    Notable Character: Nimrod

"He was a mighty hunter in the LORD's sight. His name became proverbial, and people would speak of someone as being "like Nimrod, a mighty hunter in the LORD's sight." He built the foundation for his empire in the land of Babylonia, with the cities of Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh." Gen 10:8-10 (NLT)

    The Power of Unity

But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6"Look!" he said. "If they can accomplish this when they have just begun to take advantage of their common language and political unity, just think of what they will do later. Nothing will be impossible for them!

Another facinating insight into the mind of God. Here we find omnipotent God highlighting the infinite power of people whom are unified in communication. The power of com munication,God hints, is limitless-Nothing will be impossible for them!

In that way, the LORD scattered them all over the earth.

Personally, I believe more about this passage than most. I believe this is where God physically and miraculously scattered them all over the world- to the Americas, China, Russia etc... Almost like Philip was transported, millions of people groups were sent on God's "magic carpet" to other places.
