outstanding word for the church from f.b. meyer

It is urgently needful that the Christian people of our charge should come to understand that they are not a company of invalids, to be wheeled about, or fed by hand, cosseted, nursed, and comforted, the minister being the Head Physician and Nurse; but a garrison in an enemy's country, every soul of which should have some post of duty, at which he should be prepared to make any sacrifice rather than quitting. f.b. meyer

will we ever grasp this is the southern baptist convention? will churches ever stop fueding with each other and turn their swords to the real enemy?

Great post, Matt! About two years ago I moved from a SBC church in Alaska to a Vineyard church in Olympia and a lot of that backbiting disappeared -- but not all of it. I have recently been following the Emergent situation, and things look pretty good there. I pray God will use this particular network of believers to bring healing, reconciliation, and adventure to His people and the world.

    Bless you, man!

Thanks Jeremy. I'm one of those borrn in the nursery baptists and perhaps I've seen too much but i get so frustrated with our inability to shift paradigms and accept alternative/emerging concepts. i'm sure other groups have their own stalking demons to deal with but it seems like SBCers are either mega McChurch, stick-in-the-mud bitter vintage '76 baptists, politcally-alligned demonized churches, or appearance management emotionally toxic churches.

As one of my mentors said recently, "if SBC doesn't become relevant and awake- this generation coming up might end up turning out the lights before they leave.
