    God's Grace/ Bennan Manning

Brennan Manning recounts a scene from a play by Jean Anouilh, who imagined the Last Judgment this way. The just, the righteous, the insiders are densely clustered at the gate of heaven, eager to march in, sure of reserved seats, bursting with impatience. Suddenly, a rumor starts spreading. They look at one another in disbelief. They say, "Look, he's going to forgive those others, too." They gasp and sputter, "After all the trouble I went through. I just can't believe it." They work themselves into a fury. They curse God. At that instant, they are damned. That was the final judgment. Love appeared. They refused to acknowledge it.
